The defendant, Ronald Reno, was convicted by a jury for committing the crime of murder in the stabbing of Mrs. Marcia Vespa and sentenced to 100 to 300 years in the Illinois State Penitentiary. Defendant raises three issues on appeal: whether defendant was proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt where the only evidence connecting him to the crime was a thumbprint found three houses away from the scene of the crime; whether the prosecutors closing argument, which referred to the fact that the States evidence had not been contradicted by the defense, violated the defendants fifth amendment privilege or shifted the burden of proof and whether the sentence imposed was excessive.
